A truly unique sonic palette spanning jazz through to electronica is what you can come to expect from Birmingham born Hemai. Now based out of London, the multi-hyphenate musician released his debut album ‘Strange Beauty’ in 2021 via illustrious Tru Thoughts to rave reviews.
With his childhood laying concrete musical foundations, spending time digging through his Dad’s record collection which included the likes of D’angelo, The Gilberto’s & Herbie Hancock, he now excels across guitar, bass and keys as well as being tipped to have some of the very finest drum programming of any producer in his generation.
Hemai’s compositions are a testament to his vast musical knowledge, and still he manages to bring new organic elements to the table, and the result has already caused a stir within the UK Jazz/Electronic scene and beyond, cementing his place in a burgeoning scene.
Hemai joins the Well Overdue family for his upcoming EP entitled ‘Leisure Trip’ - four collaborations with friends and fellow UK artists. ‘Leisure Trip’ provokes a more evocative, nostalgic energy than previously heard, as he explores soundscapes more closely related to 2000s Trip-Hop and Downtempo.
The first single ‘Feet Will Fall’ featuring B-ahwe is out now.
